Three names revolve around this stool: Zanotta, Joe Colombo and Ridley Scott. The first two collaborated together for a few years ('68 - '71). But what does the British director have to do with this piece of design? Simple, Birillo was chosen as a space-inspired stool on the set of the cult movie Blade Runner. This stool with its anthropomorphic shape, curiously combined (for those years) with the use of very modern materials, such as plastic derivatives and steel, was a perfect prop for the setting of the film. Over time Birillo has become a pop icon par excellence. It is no coincidence that it is exhibited in eight of the main museums in the world, including the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Center Pompidou in Paris. Not just a stool, but a real work of art.
